George Burzynski grew up on his family owned farm in Poland. As a child one of his favorite activities was to cook alongside of his grandmother who taught him traditional Polish dishes such as czarnina, bigos and pierogi. In Poland he earned a Master’s Degree in Economics. Seeking a better life he left Poland and immigrated to the US in 1980 carrying with him his love of cooking, his recipes and a dream to one day open a restaurant featuring the authentic Polish dishes taught to him by his grandmother. In 1983 George realized his dream and opened Polonez Restaurant located on South Sixth Street in Milwaukee. Today Polonez Restaurant is located in St. Francis, WI, where George still prepares the traditional Polish dishes taught to him by his grandmother as well as numerous American favorite dishes all perfected over 30 years of owning and operating Polonez Restaurant.

Yelp Review

"Headed to Polonez one evening while in town on business - based on Yelp reviews. Once again Yelpers didn't let me down.

I sampled a few dishes and everything was great! Pork cutlet with mushroom gravy, potato pancakes, hunters stew, ruben and potato/cheese pirogi. All were really tasty washed down with a good Polish Pils.

Thanks to the bartender on recommendations too. I asked him what he ate, and he recommended the cutlet. Great choice, done perfectly. I was thinking about having the hunters stew as my main course, and he suggested that I could have it as a vegie side with the pork instead, that maybe it was a little strong for a full main course. Again, he was absolutely right - the stew was delicious, full of sauerkraut, pork and sausage, really deep flavors - but it would have been too much kraut with a whole plate full though. Be sure and try it though, it was really the taste standout of the meal.
Dear Polonez Restaurant and Staff:
I want to thank you again for making my husband Lena funeral lunch a “Celebration of Lena Life”.
The food and service was excellent as usual.
Thanks again for making that day easier with all your help.”
